How Does the Brain Localize the Self

چکیده
Respond to this E-Letter: Re: How Does the Brain Localize the Self ? The sight of oneself on a stadium screen when filmed as part of the crowd at a football game comes as a pleasant surprise to most people and usually does not cause any confusion. The brain recognizes the artificial nature of the image and deals adequately with the apparent conflict caused by seeing a visual representation of its own body where it should not be. However, when a carefully designed experimental setup eliminates most of the clues about the synthetic nature of the visual scenery, processing of contradictory sensory information concerning the localization of one's own body can produce astonishing results.

O7: Research on the Brain and Learning: Plasticity and Variability and Their Impact on Talent Identification
This talk will introduce the idea that talent development is related to learning where learning is the physiological process of neuro-plastic changes in the brain. To develop talents, individuals must move from novice or beginner’s status to expertise levels of knowledge or skills in a particular domain. Learning depends on maximizing an individual’s potential through the experience...
متن کاملDoes Muscle Fatigue Alter EEG Bands of Brain Hemispheres?
Background: Muscle fatigue has been known to influence brain activity, but very little is known about how cortical centers respond to muscle fatigue. Objective: This study was conducted to investigate the effects of muscle contraction and fatigue induced by two different percents of maximal voluntary contraction (MVC) on Electroencephalography (EEG) signals.Material and Methods: In t...
متن کاملOptogenetics: Control of Brain Using Light
Neuronal cells communicate with each other by producing electrical signals or action potentials (APs). Different ion channels, including Na+, K+ and Ca2+ channels, are involved in generation of AP. Once an AP is generated in the soma, it travels down entire the axon length toward its terminal in a self-generating fashion that ultimately conveys information between neurons in the neural circuit....
متن کاملNaturalizing Self-Consciousness
The crucial problem of self-consciousness is how to account for knowing self-reference without launching into a regress or without presupposing self-consciousness rather than accounting for it (circle). In the literature we find two bottom-up proposals for solving the traditional problem: the postulation of nonconceptual forms of self-consciousness and the postulation of a pre-reflexive form of...

This study evaluated the effect of the intermittent light program on serum and brain melatonin concentrations, antioxidant enzyme activities, and homocysteine concentration in broiler chickens. A total of 60 one-day-old broiler chickens (Cobb 500) were distributed in three light-proof controlled rooms (20 chicks per room). All birds were reared in continuous light until 3 days of age. Then, chi...
